The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has made a significant arrest, apprehending a close associate of the former Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. The CTD spokesperson announced the arrest on Friday, revealing that Amin ul-Haq, a prominent Al-Qaeda terrorist listed on the United Nations’ global terrorist list, was captured in an intelligence-based operation.
The spokesperson confirmed that legal proceedings against Amin ul-Haq have already begun, and an investigation is ongoing. The CTD officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring a safe Punjab and expressed their determination to eradicate terrorism from the region.
In a related development, on May 12, the CTD was involved in an encounter that resulted in the death of Faizan Butt, a suspected sharpshooter and alleged member of the banned militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Faizan Butt had been linked to three attacks on police officers in Lahore within a single week. He was involved in an encounter in Karol Ghatti, where he was killed.
Faizan Butt had a history of targeting unarmed police officers. He had previously killed a sub-inspector and a constable after following them home, and had also injured another police constable. Known for his ability to locate and attack unarmed officers, he would often patrol the city, searching for targets, and strike when the opportunity arose.
The CTD’s operations aim to disrupt and dismantle terrorist activities, reflecting their ongoing efforts to enhance security and tackle threats effectively.
