Due to security reasons, the Punjab government has imposed section 144 and banned riding on motorcycles with two people from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram. The Punjab Home Department has issued guidelines to ensure safety during Muharram. The Home Department secretary has instructed everyone to follow the standard operating procedures and ensure security measures are foolproof.
In processions and majlis, new customs are not permitted. It is strictly forbidden to display firearms or explosive materials in public without authorization from the appropriate government. Provocative slogans and activities that could offend the feelings and beliefs of the public are strictly prohibited. Moreover, any comments that incite hatred toward specific races, faiths, or sects are subject to Section 144.
The spokesperson mentioned that building rooftops on houses and buildings along the procession routes is banned. People cannot sit in shops or outside house doors along these routes. Accumulating bricks, waste, bottles, and stones on rooftops is also forbidden.
The prohibition on riding motorcycles with two passengers will be in place from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram, except for women, senior persons, and law enforcement officers. The general prohibition will be in effect from the first to the tenth of Muharram. In contrast, the ban on riding a piggyback will only apply from the seventh to the tenth of Muharram.
Additionally, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to see the moon for Muharram today.
