The government has announced new school timings across Punjab due to health concerns from worsening smog in the area.
The Punjab Environmental Protection Authority released a statement on Wednesday with the updated timings and other guidelines.
According to the notification, schools will start at 8:45 AM from October 28 until January 31, 2025. School officials have been instructed to hold student assemblies indoors.
Citizens are advised to avoid outdoor exercise, keep their doors and windows closed to block dirty air, wear masks, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
Additionally, activities like fireworks are banned until January 31, 2025.
Lahore has been reported as the most polluted city in the world for the second consecutive day, with an even worse air quality index (AQI) than the day before.
Recent data from IQAir shows Lahore’s air quality index reached 503, which is considered “hazardous” to health.
Medical experts recommend that people with respiratory issues, such as asthma and dust allergies, take extra precautions to protect themselves from air pollution.
