In an effort to stop Khwarij militants from crossing into Pakistan from the Afghanistan border, security forces engaged in a clash that resulted in the deaths of five Khwarij and injuries to four others. Sadly, three Pakistani soldiers also lost their lives in the exchange of fire.
On the night of August 18-19, 2024, a group of Khwarij attempting to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was spotted by security forces in Bajaur District, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army.
The Pakistani troops fought back and successfully stopped the militants. Five Khwarij were killed, and four were injured during the fight. However, three soldiers, Naik Inayat Khan (36 years old from District Khyber), Lance Naik Umer Hayat (35 years old from District Mansehra), and Sepoy Waqar Khan (25 years old from District Peshawar), lost their lives in the battle.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sadness over the death of the three soldiers and praised their bravery. He honored their sacrifice and said the entire nation is proud of its martyrs. He also praised the security forces for their courage in stopping the militants and eliminating the terrorists.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also commended the security forces for killing five insurgents and paid tribute to the three fallen soldiers. He expressed solidarity with the Pakistani Armed Forces in their fight against terrorism and prayed for the families of the martyrs.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur praised the bravery of the soldiers and expressed pride in their sacrifice while defending the nation. He also prayed for the elevation of their ranks and patience for their families.
The ISPR noted that Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Interim Afghan Government to manage their side of the border effectively and prevent Khwarij from using Afghan soil to carry out attacks against Pakistan.
