Pakistan has announced the renewal of the Kartarpur Corridor agreement with India for another five years. This agreement was originally signed on October 24, 2019, and is set to complete its initial term on October 24 of this month.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, the agreement aims to help pilgrims visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, located in Narowal, Pakistan.
The renewal highlights Pakistan’s commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence. The agreement allows Indian pilgrims to visit the sacred site without needing a visa, enabling them to pay their respects at Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, where Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, spent his last days.
Since the corridor opened, it has allowed thousands of worshippers to visit this important religious site. The Kartarpur Corridor is significant for the Sikh community, fulfilling their long-held wish for access to one of their most revered landmarks.
The initiative has been widely appreciated internationally, including by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who called it a “Corridor of Hope.”
